Parkville, Mo. – The men's basketball team (8-18) fell to the Park Pirates (20-6) on Saturday afternoon by a score of 88-98. Even though the Pirates led from wire to wire, the Trojans made them work for it.
HLGU rebounded and shot well in the game, shooting 42% from the field. It was a back and forth battle through the first 15 minutes of the first half. Adam Ingle (JR/Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) hit a timely three to leave the Trojans down by two points (28-30) at the 6:01 mark. As the half came to an end, Trevor Ison (FR/Malden, Mo.) hit a jumper to hold the point differential to four but the Pirates made a three to push it to seven with 12 seconds remaining in the first. Demetrius Early (JR/Bossier City, La.) had a strong first half with 14 points as HLGU trailed 45-52.
The Pirates started off hot in the second half and expanded their lead to double digits which left the men's team looking for answers. In the end D'Avonte Garland (SR/Miami, Fla.) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while adding 6 assists. De'Shawn Terrell (SR/Wichita, Kans.) led the Trojans with 22 points and was followed by Early with 19. Park protected the rim well and had 12 blocks in the game.
HLGU celebrated six seniors last weekend and will look drastically different next season. Thank you to those young men who have put the time and effort in to represent Hannibal-LaGrange throughout the past few years.
