Canton, Mo. – Hannibal-LaGrange University's Softball Team (16-16) had a slight change of plans for their match up today. Instead of hosting the Wildcats from Culver-Stockton College (17-15), they traveled to their place to play due to field conditions. Both local teams split during the non-conference matchup. The Trojans rallied the first game 7-3 and the Wildcats took the second game 8-3.
The first game showed how close these two teams were. The first three innings remained scoreless until HLGU scored in the top of the 4th inning to open up the scoring columns. The Wildcats responded in the bottom of the 5th and went ahead in the bottom of the sixth. Going into the 7th inning, C-SC saw themselves up 2-1, but the Trojans looked to still squeak out a victory. The Trojans rallied in six runs in the seventh to secure a victory over the Wildcats. HLGU had five straight hits in the inning and scored two runs before Culver-Stockton had an out. Jennifer Harness (JR/Liberty, Mo.) led the way with three hits and McKenzie Marshall (SO/Edwardsville, Ill.) lead with three RBI's. Madison Ingram (FR/Bowling Green, Mo.) pitched a complete game, where she recorded four strikeouts.
The momentum from the seventh inning carried over into second game. The Trojans jumped ahead to a quick 3-0 after the first inning but were held scoreless the rest of the game. The Wildcats got their bats going and scored in the next four innings to expand the lead to 8-3. Hannah Salrin (SR/Rushville, Ill.) recorded two RBI's and Harness chipped in one. Bobbie Henderson (SR/Liberty, Mo.) and Jordyn Alford (SO/St. Jacob, Ill.) each pitched in the game.
The Trojans take the field again on Friday, April 14 in Columbia, Mo. against Columbia College. They will return home on Saturday, April 15 to take on Freed-Hardeman. The Strike Out Cancer (Pink Game) which was originally scheduled for today's home matchup, has been pushed to next Tuesday, April 18 when the Trojans take on Harris-Stowe State University at home.
