Hannibal, Mo. - The Hannibal-LaGrange Women's Volleyball Team squared off against the Statesmen of William Penn (3-6). WP came out strong in the first set winning 25-10 but the next two sets were anything but easy. HLGU continued to push them to their limits but ended up falling 26-28 and 24-26. The Trojans continue to grow as a team and drew a lot of energy from the crowd tonight.

HLGU were able to kick into a second gear in game two where they led the majority of the set. Sarah Greer had a kill late in the set that put the Trojans up 22-20. The game went back and forth for several points until it was tied 26 all. WP earned two kills in a row to finish off the second set.
"We settled into the game in the second set and focused on things we have worked on. We forced them into some situations that favor us, and we took advantage of it in the last two sets," shared Coach Kyle Smith. He continued with, "The atmosphere in the Mabee Sports Complex was phenomenal and anyone in the region who did not come missed an entertaining match of volleyball."
The volleyball team will be on the road until they return home for HLGU Homecoming Weekend on October 6. This week they will be traveling up to Canton, Missouri to play against Culver-Stockton. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 PM on Thursday. On Saturday, September 9 HLGU will be in Lincoln, Illinois as the Trojans attempt to avenge an earlier loss this season to Lincoln Christian.
