Louisville, Ky. - The Hannibal-LaGrange Cross Country Teams each competed in the Greater Louisville Classic over the weekend. The men's team placed 18 of 36 teams in the silver division while the women's team placed 15 of 16 in the blue division. Both races featured some of the top talent in Division I through the NAIA.
Tyler Byars (SO/McLeansboro, Ill) crossed first for the Trojans finishing in 32nd place with a time of 27:16. Peyton Ford (FR/Zalma, Mo.) was less than a minute behind him (27:54) and came in 82nd place. Nathan Rose (SR/Monroe City, Mo.) (28:22), Shawn Geralds (SR/Sturgeon, Mo.) (28:30), and Cyle Butenhoff (FR/Lonedell, Mo.) (29:11) were the final three runners that had their combined times count in the team score. Also running in the event were David Ballew (SO/Kansas City, Mo.) (29:28) and Stephon Abron (FR/St. Charles, Mo.) (31:58).
On the women's side, Shelby Kallem (FR/Greencastle, Ind.) continues to shine as a freshman with a time of 20:03 which placed her 79th. Lauren Sisco (FR/Alton, Mo.) (89th) was 10 seconds behind her with Bailey Wagner (SO/Willow Springs, Mo.) (129th) about a minute behind at 21:04. Tateum King (SR/Gillespie, Ill.) (21:19), Tessa Starbeck (JR/Bourbon, Mo.) (21:26), Natalie McCaughey (SO/Carlisle, Iowa) (21:38), and Erin Tomschin (FR/Wright City, Mo.) (21:47) seemed to have stayed together for the majority of the race only to seperate towards the end.
Coach Andy Lemons stated, "I thought we competed well throughout the event. Really nice venue for a cross country meet. We had a few personal records that were broken over the weekend."
The teams will now switch their focus to the Principia Invite hosted on the campus of Principia College in Elsah, Illinois on Saturday, October 14. This will also be the host site for AMC Championships in November.
