Hannibal, Mo. - The Hannibal-LaGrange Men's Golf Team hosted their annual fall tournament earlier today. Fresh off one of the programs biggest wins in Columbia earlier in the week, HLGU hoped to continue their dominance. That did not happen today out at Norwoods Golf Club near Hannibal. Three visiting schools, Crowley's Ridge College, Culver-Stockton College, and Quincy University participated in the event.
The Trojans "A" team placed second in the tournament with a total team score of 309 as QU won by six strokes. Tom Sims shot a 75 followed closely by Robin Conlan (77) and Rafael Beirana (77). Sims finished tied for second place while Conlan and Beirana finished tied for sixth. Conor Brady and Carlos Pena each carded an 80 leaving them tied for 15th place. With 24 golfers in the field, Coach Thomas Brennan expected more on their home course.
The "B" team placed third out of the five teams in the tournament and were close to beating the "A" team. Their total team score was 313 with Dan Twiby taking the lead. Twiby scored a +4, 76 leaving him tied for fourth. Hunter Leach one stroke back of Twiby with a 77. David Bennett struck the ball well with a 78. Konstantin Scharringhausen (82) and Brock Cook (83) closed out the round for HLGU.
The team will now prepare for the NAIA Fall Preview hosted at TPC Deere Run in Silvas, Illinois. The two day tournament will be played on October 16-17. The golf team has been very competitive this year top to bottom and as you can see from the scores above. The week prior to each event they play several qualifying rounds to see who earns a top five spot to travel to an event.
