Hannibal Mo.- The Hannibal-LaGrange University Women's Volleyball Team kicked of the homecoming weekend a game against William Baptist (6-16). The Trojans came into the contest seeking their fifth victory of the season after a loss to College of the Ozarks last week. HLGU had not beaten the Eagles since October of 2013. The Trojans won in four sets 25-23, 15-25, 25-23, and 25-18.

The first set was a tight battle but the Trojans managed to grind it out and take a 1-0 lead. After losing the 2nd set the Trojans managed to respond and control the game the rest of the way. Seniors shined in the win and led the team through the the emotional ups and downs of the game.

Coach Kyle Smith shared, "We came ready to play today. We were glad to be at home to show off our improvement and hard work over the last month. I'm so impressed with our ability to recover after a tough second set, where we really struggled to execute. But we came right out and turned it around." He continued with, "Thanks to all the community, administration, and families that came out along side the student body to cheer us on to victory."

HLGU recorded 46 kills, 39 assists, and 88 digs in their impressive victory after being on the road for more than a month. Shelby Maupin (SR/St. Peters, Mo.) along with a few others had a monster game leading both teams with 24 kills and contributed 10 digs. Hannah Killian (SR/Bentonville, Ark.) led the team with a season high 32 digs which is her career high as a Trojan. Claire Maupin (SO/St. Peters, Mo.) finished with a season high 36 assists in the contest and contributed 11 digs as well. Taylor Fry (SR/Boonville, Mo.) had herself a solid game adding on 9 kills and 13 digs. Allyson Richterkessing (FR/Troy, Mo.) also contributed 10 digs to round out the contest.

With the win today, the Trojans matched their in conference win total from last season. Homecoming weekend continues tomorrow as HLGU prepares for another battle tomorrow vs. Freed-Hardeman at 12:00 PM.
