Hannibal, Mo. - The Hannibal-LaGrange University Women's Volleyball team hosted their second homecoming game today against conference opponent Freed- Hardeman University (5-10). The Trojans are coming off of a solid victory over William Baptist yesterday and looking to make it two straight. HLGU had a record of 5-16 coming into this contest.
The first set was a competitive battle but key mistakes cost the Trojans in the end as they lost the first set, 19-25. From that point on the women's team would fail to recapture any momentum throughout either set as they lost by scores of 11-25 and 16-25. The defeat pushes the teams record to 5-17 and 2-4 in the American Midwest Conference.
Coach Kyle Smith said, "We had a hard time staying in system even on easy balls today. Our defense struggled to read well and react in a timely manner."
Claire Maupin led the team in assists once again by handing out 16 for the match. Shelby Maupin also continued her hot hand with 9 kills. On the defensive side, Hannah Killian and McKenzie Latham finished with 8 digs a piece.
The Trojans will have a few days to regroup as they prepare for another home game against Culver-Stockton. The matchup will take place on October 12 with live coverage beginning at 7 PM.
