Columbia, Mo. - The Hannibal-LaGrange Women's Soccer Team continued play in conference on Wednesday evening against Stephens College (4-6-2). The Stars come into the game just ahead of HLGU in the AMC standings. In the end the Trojans won 5-0 to break their four game losing streak.
In the first half, the ladies were able to get several shots near the goal before finally getting one to go past the keeper in the 30th minute. Maria Monteiro crossed the ball into the box as Maci Cotler ran onto the ball and scored. HLGU continued to keep the ball in their offensive half as the period came to an end.
The Trojans continued to put the pressure on the Star's defense as they scored two more goals in a matter of a couple minutes. Faith Fields, recently returned from injury, scored her first goal (70th minute) of the season off a corner kick from Nicole Paisini. Skylar Evans went on to finish on a cross in from Maci Cotler in the 72nd minute. Kendal Welch scored the fourth goal of the evening at the 77th minute on Paisini's second assist of the night. HLGU out shot the Stars 28-5.
Coach Tasha Flynn stated, "It was a good team win tonight. Our goals were by multiple players as we moved the ball well. In the second half, we waited for the defense to open up and took advantage."
