Kyle Smith begins his first year as Head Coach of the Trojan Volleyball Program after a lifetime of involvement in the sport of volleyball. Having grown up in Jefferson City, MO, Kyle is excited to return to his home state and sees his coaching career as a ministry; committed to mentor and walk with young people through the trials of life and to help them persevere in the faith.
Smith describes a program mentality of "Next Ball" coming directly from his faith in Christ, and his belief that we must look forward to what God has in store for us not allowing the past to define our future.
Moving from Bakersfield, California; Smith was the Head Varsity Coach at North High School (2015-2017) was a head coach for Bakersfield Volleyball Club from 2014-2017 and has been the Director (Founder) of Valley Sand Volleyball Academy since February of 2014. Smith has ran clinics, hosted tournaments, officiated and coached in Virginia, Missouri, Tennessee, and California. Smith holds current certification with AAU Positive Coaching Alliance and USA Volleyball Beach CAP Level I, Impact, and SafeSport.
Smith earned a B.S. in Business Administration in 2004 from Southwest Baptist University (Bolivar, MO), where he was involved in Higher Ground, as well as, Student Government Association Concert Committee Chair (2001-2004) and Vice President (2003-2004).
He also earned a Master's degree in Sport Administration in 2013 from Belmont University (Nashville, TN) where he worked for various volleyball clubs and in ticketing for Vanderbilt University Athletics.
His parents Don and Jo Smith continue to reside in Jefferson City, MO. Ryan Smith, his brother, is a teacher and head swim coach at Liberty High School in Mountain View, MO.
